IEEE 802.11 is currently standardizing four radio technologies - TV white spaces 54 MHz to 862 MHz; Unlicensed sub 1 GHz; Gigabit sub 6 GHz and Gigabit at 60 GHz. The first two extend the range of Wi-Fi, and the gigabit ones extend the maximum data rate. Each has a Wi-Fi Alliance Marketing Task Group. Together with Wi-Fi Alliance Hot Spot 2.0, all the Wi-Fi radios will be used to augment LTE indoors and outside. New operating scenarios include geo-location database control in TV White Spaces, and concurrent multiband using 60 GHz for some traffic and lower bands for other traffic. Traditional BlueTooth Zigbee and other battery-powered applications will be considered by Wi-Fi Alliance Low Energy Task Group and 802.11ah.
